Simon battles Tomic in Eastbourne quarterfinal Second seed Gilles Simon looks to secure a final four spot with a victory over young Australian Bernard Tomic. The players are joined in quarterfinal action by 7th seed Andreas Seppi, who faces veteran Radek Stepanek.

    (2) Gilles Simon vs. Bernard Tomic

World No. 17 Gilles Simon advanced to the quarterfinal after taking out British wildcard Kyle Edmund in two tie-break sets. The second seed won 42 of of 54 first-service points through two hours of play. Simon will be looking to make his first semifinal at the AEGON International.

World No. 64 Bernard Tomic is through to the final eight following his three-sets victory over French veteran Julien Benneteau. The 20-year-old Australian tallied 13 aces en route to a 6-2, 5-7, 7-6(4) win.

"I was up a lot," Tomic explained. "I should have probably finished that match maybe 6-2, 6-2, but he did a good job to break back. In the third set I was very, very, very lucky to get out of probably four or five break points that I faced. Today, I didn't focus at the right times, but I was lucky to win in the end."

Tomic is seeking his first semifinal berth since early January.

    (7) Andreas Seppi vs. Radek Stepanek

Seventh seed Andreas Seppi trails Czech veteran Radek Stepanek 0-5 in the head-to-head series. The players last met at the 2012 Gerry Weber Open, where the World No. 48 recorded a first-round victory in three sets.

Seppi made the quarterfinal after rallying to defeat American qualifier Ryan Harrison in three sets, 3-6, 7-5, 6-3. The 29-year-old Italian is bidding for his third semifinal berth of the season.

Stepanek is through to the last eight following his straight-sets upending of 3rd seed Philipp Kohlschreiber. The 34-year-old Czech looks to make his first Tour-level semifinal since early 2012, when he reached the final four in Memphis.
