• Djokovic back in action for French Open second round

    5/29/13 9:44 PM | Ricky Dimon
Djokovic back in action for French Open second round Novak Djokovic is looking for a place in the last 32 at Roland Garros as he takes the court against Guido Pella on Thursday. Djokovic will be hoping for an easier straight-setter than the one he had with David Goffin.

Novak Djokovic and Guido Pella will be squaring off for the first time in their careers when they clash in the second round of the French Open on Thursday afternoon.

Djokovic kicked off his fortnight with a 7-6(5), 6-4, 7-5 victory over David Goffin. The top-seeded Serb is now 29-4 for the season and 32-8 lifetime at Roland Garros, which includes a runner-up finish to Rafael Nadal last season. Djokovic, a recent champion on the clay courts of Monte-Carlo, is looking to complete a career Grand Slam at this event.

Needless to say, this does not set up well for Pella--and not just because he is going up against the world No. 1. The 83rd-ranked Argentine is coming off a 4-6, 6-4, 6-3, 6-2, 12-10 win at the expense of Ivan Dodig. On the bright side, for such a scoreline it lasted a relatively short three hours and 24 minutes. Pella is 6-8 at the ATP level this year, which is highlighted by a semifinal run as a qualifier last week in Dusseldorf.

Although he is a strong clay-courter, Pella will be hard-pressed to rise to the occasion against such a tough opponent after such a difficult first-round test. Count on this one ending in straight sets, and none of the frames should be as competitive as they were between Djokovic and Goffin.

Mr. Pella was successful in meetings with two of Nole's compatriots - he beat recently both Tipsarevic (first round, Dusseldorf) and Troicki (1/4 finals). He came out of nowhere and stirred some clay ;). Those are the players that I am quite uneasy about despite their low ranking. One knows nothing about them and their game and that's why I can never say with certainty that Nole will win.
Having said all that...
Ajde Noleeee!!! :)

Nole wins in stright sets ,

Nole is different player you cannot compare with Tipsarevic and Troicki

anji123 , 5/30/13 8:15 AM

Of course, both Tipsarevic and Troicki are not in shape, and Pella played five sets against Dodig. Novak is above all of them. But you just never know. I like to be cautious with these new guys. I remember how, as absolute favorite, he lost to Simon and Anderson in second rounds . I never take anything for granted :).

danica , 5/30/13 8:44 AM

Good luck, Nole :)

deuce , 5/30/13 9:37 AM

Nole will never lose to nobodies like Rosol/pella. Take it to the bank

#No-1-vak! The 2nd most complete player of this millenium after the King of the tennis court, Roger Federer.

#Will not lose to journeymen like Rosol/Pella

Fedkovic23 , 5/30/13 12:36 PM

Fedkovic20-10 has never played a day of tennis in her life. Hilarious.

Scrotracker , 5/30/13 12:50 PM

One wonders if they've ever even watched a match let alone been courtside.

It's not like what they have to say is even original. They trawl the message boards for 'comments' by other trolls to cut and paste here.

ed251137 , 5/30/13 1:10 PM

Right ed, Federer/Djokovic fans are trolls, but constipator who goes about calling people transexuals and whores is a tennis expert because he buries his head up rafa's behind like all rafatards.

Fedkovic23 , 5/30/13 1:22 PM

Fedkovic you are obsessed with references to asses and "behinds". Seems strange.

Scrotracker , 5/30/13 1:50 PM

I've always found that Novak pic to be quite nice!!!

Novak in 3!!

Thanks nats. What with willmw "gone" (if only in name), someone's gotta represent.

(Oh wait, there I go talking about myself again.)

Conspirator , 5/30/13 5:43 PM

Godkovic is in da house! He looks absolutely dialed in. Ajde Nole!

Fedkovic23 - thanks for stating the bleeding obvious. Nole has more game and personality than naydull for sure.

JamesDjokovicFan , 5/30/13 5:46 PM

Why did they suspend Novak's match due to rain while EVERY other match was still on?!! Just dont understadn it?!!! Did it only rain on his court?!.............headscratch!!!

Monalysa , 5/30/13 6:24 PM

I managed to see only the last game. Glad it was a good day in the office.

danica , 5/30/13 6:36 PM

Monalysa, strange as it may sound it doesn't rain all over the complex every time. It happened the other day when play was going on on the outside courts whilst play was suspended on PC.

nadline , 5/30/13 7:13 PM

ed251137, 5/30/13 1:10 PM,

Exactly! They wouldn't know a tennis match if it stood up and hit them in the face! I see that you have noticed this business of trolling for comments to be cut and pasted her. The lack of originality is quite obvious. At least in the past there were trolls here who were somewhat entertaining. But this latest group is quite boring and repetitive.

Nativenewyorker , 5/30/13 8:23 PM

one senile fart, CBM agrees with the other! What a miracle!

Another thing for you guys to agree on - crappyrator is oh so funny!

Great that Nole can put his feet up and enjoy the extra day of rest. Karma in action - kneedal, who according to his peers, faked his injury to sit out after getting rosoled pays for his evil acts. Now look at these egg-headed rafatards claim that fed/djokovic have "fixed rain/weather" to suit them. Genius has limits but stupidity that rafatards revel in has no limits whatsoever!

JamesDjokovicFan , 5/31/13 2:27 AM

You need some new material! Why don't you go on the internet and copy and paste some more stuff! You need all the help you can get!

These brainless rants are really getting so boring!

Nativenewyorker , 5/31/13 2:55 AM

You worship at the altar of the most boring player to have graced this game and you think that qualifies you to call other people boring? copy and posting is what your cohorts do CBM!

be careful yawning, crappyrator's crappy posts might just squeeze into your filthy-self!

JamesDjokovicFan , 5/31/13 3:06 AM

Haters Gonna Hate!

Nativenewyorker , 5/31/13 3:59 AM

@nny, my advice: you know who the trolls are, save your breath and ignore them. Difficult yes, but try............for your own health.
