Murray opens Madrid campaign on Tuesday World No. 3 Andy Murray is set to highlight play at the Mutua Madrid Open with a second-round match against Germany’s Florian Mayer. The players will be looking to secure a place among the final 16.

World No. 3 Andy Murray makes his return to competition following a round of 16 defeat to Switzerland’s Stanislas Wawrinka in Monte-Carlo. The 25-year-old Scot is 20-3 for the season after winning titles in Brisbane and Miami.

“I feel like every time I go into tournaments, I'm capable of winning. I think the chances of me winning tournaments vary depending on the surface,” Murray explained.

“But on grass and hard courts, I've played very well over the last year. Really since Miami last year, I've had good results on the hard courts. And the grass I obviously enjoy playing on as well. The clay has been still the most challenging surface for me, but I've played some good matches and beaten some tough players.”

Murray holds a 1-0 series edge over World No. 26 Florian Mayer, having won their only previous meeting at the 2011 Masters 1000 Rome.

Mayer survived a difficult first-round match with Australian lucky loser Marinko Matosevic, 6-2, 6-7(3), 6-4. The German veteran is seeking his 13th match win of the season.

    Prediction: Murray in straight sets.

Let's Go Andy! Let's Go!
Hope he's not too rusty and all this practise with Rafa...;) Dimitrov and Big Bird will stand him in good stead.

He might well be, right now he is battling in a tie-break with Florian!

RT @juanjo_sports: "At this point, I'm starting to worry that Andy Murray will get married wearing a tuxedo with yellow patches on the shoulders."

Amen. C'mon Adidas..............

Hmmn, worrying if this is true:

RT: linzsports: "Seriously, Murray is breathing so heavily he looks like Dimitrov!"

Andy never looked like losing this. Thought he was moving gr8 and serving well. Clearly finding probs with heat and altitude but more matches should sort that out.
Come on!

RT @GBtennis: " 'Our correspondent' in Madrid ;-) RT @ExpatTennisFan: Andy looks so lethargic I am wondering if he is ill. Don't know how he won the 1st set "

RT @NeilHarmanTimes: "Five all in the second set. Murray doing just enough to hang in there against a wily foe. "

RT @TennisReporters: "Murray really needs to get win over Mayer to work out kinks in game. But Florian playing quite well "

RT @NeilHarmanTimes: "Simply so hard to tell how much Murray is hurting out there. More grimaces. Mayer puts you in positions you don't want to be. "

Hardly think that the above could be put in the "haters" category.

I watched the match, thought Muzza was lucky to snag the 1st set, more to do with Mayer who has such an awkward game. Muzza concentrated well to break back after being 2-0 in the second and really that was what won him the match, solid concentration in the second set to not be frustrated by Mayer's awkward game.

Match take-out for me: Muzza's forehand needs work, was woeful in the 1st set.
