  • Nadal faces Ramos in second match of the day

    4/26/13 3:38 PM | Kelli DeMario
Nadal faces Ramos in second match of the day Defending champion Rafael Nadal looks to continue his bid for an eighth Barcelona title, as he takes on fellow Spaniard Albert Ramos. The players are scheduled to contest their first meeting Friday afternoon.

World No. 5 Rafael Nadal is through to the quarterfinal after taking out France's Benoit Paire early Friday. The 26-year-old will be playing his second match of the day, as rain halted action all day Thursday.

Nadal is seeking his sixth consecutive semifinal berth of the season.

World No. 64 Albert Ramos moved into the quarterfinal by virtue of his straight-set upset of Japan's Kei Nishikori. The 25-year-old Barcelona native held 10 of 11 service games through an hour and 44 minutes of play.

Ramos will attempt to make his first semifinal berth of the season.

2nd set was brilliant...hopefully this will help him get to peak physical condition.

good job, Rafa...slowly waking up from the "winter sleep"...the game needs more refinements but it will come...one thing remains though: Rafa looks cute as ever...:)

I stayed up to watch Rafa's match with Paire. Rafa didn't look that sharp in the first set, but seemed to play better in the second set. Paire was spraying shots all over the place. The match ended a little after 3:00 AM my time and it was off to get some sleep.

I missed the second match but it's nice to see that Rafa got the job done quickly. From the comments, it appears that Rafa is getting better with each match. I noticed in the first match that Rafa's timing was still off with his forehand. He was dumping forehands into the net. The only solution is more match play.

I am glad that both matches were relatively straightforward, given that Rafa had to play two in one day!

RAFA NADAL: ''I played much better in the second match than in the morning. Above all in the second set, when Albert made more mistakes than usual.''

On vb they are talking about the rules that say that tournament has to finish by Monday. Otherwise it won't be completed. They talked about one time in the past when they couldn't finish it and the players had to play in June.

They have three days to play three matches. We just need to hope that the rain lets up enough so that they get played.
