• Almagro, Bellucci in round of 16 action in Barcelona

    4/25/13 4:07 AM | Cheryl Murray
Almagro, Bellucci in round of 16 action in Barcelona Nicolas Almagro, the top seed in the top half of the draw with the exit of David Ferrer, will take on countryman Marcel Granollers in the third round.

Nicolas Almagro (4) vs. Marcel Granollers (15)

World No. 36 Marcel Granollers cannot have been pleased to see compatriot Nicolas Almagro as his third round opponent. The two men have met on six occasions, five of them on clay. Almagro won every encounter, the last two in 2011 and 2012 in straight sets.

Almagro will be the overwhelming favorite to advance to the quarterfinals, with the Spaniard now with an excellent opportunity to find his way to the final.

Prediction - Almagro in straight sets.

Dmitry Tursunov (Q) vs. Thomaz Bellucci (16)

Dmitry Tursunov scored the first major upset of the week with a three-set victory over top seed David Ferrer on Wednesday. The Russian will now face Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci, the world No. 44.

Bellucci and Tursunov met once before on the hard courts of the Shanghai Masters. Tursunov won that match in three grueling sets. The good news for the Brazilian's camp is that this encounter comes on Bellucci's preferred surface.

Tursunov has a game tailored for hard courts. Though his win over Ferrer was impressive, the victory was due as much to Ferrer's poor form as anything the Russian did.

Prediction - Bellucci for the win.

What's up with Almagro and Granollers grunting incessantly? It's really off putting. I might turn the sound off if they go on like this.

Granollers is the worst. You'd expect him to give birth any minute...........

rafaisthebest , 4/25/13 2:14 PM

Almagro stopped grunting once he won the 1st set.

Almagro's screams if he makes what he thinks is a good point are just as annoying as Granollers' grunts.
