• Ferrer, Almagro in round 2 action in Barcelona

    4/24/13 3:45 AM | Cheryl Murray
Ferrer, Almagro in round 2 action in Barcelona Spaniards David Ferrer and Nicolas Almagro will be featured in an action-packed day at the Barcelona Open.

David Ferrer (1) vs. Dmitry Tursunov

David Ferrer is the second winningest player at the Barcelona Open since 2008. The world No. 4 is a four-time finalist with losses to champion Rafael Nadal, except for a win for Ferrer in 2010, in a year that Nadal withdrew from the event.

Russia's Dmitry Tursunov will have his work cut out for him. Ferrer is playing at home on his favorite surface at one of his best tournaments. Tursunov is on an upswing right now, but clay is not the Russian's specialty. Ferrer in straight sets.

Nicolas Almagro (4) vs. Ivan Dodig

Nicolas Almagro has had a great start to the 2013 season. No titles for the Spaniard yet, but he's been outstanding on the dirt, with semifinal showings in Buenos Aires and Acapulco and a final in Houston before he made the trip to Europe.

Ivan Dodig of Croatia is ranked 56th in the world. He comes into Barcelona with a 9-10 record on the season. The Croat has just one win on clay this season, his first round win this week over Aljaz Bedene.

This should be a breeze for Almagro. The Spaniard in straight sets.

Ferrer seemed to tank the match in the third set.Tursunov handled the windy conditions well.

I thought for sure I'd hear something about the thigh injury, but I haven't. Seems like Ferrer just didn't do well in the wind.

I dont think Ferrer is good preparation for facing Djokovic

tennis2011, you seem to have a Djokovic obsession. Thank goodness Rafa does not.

rafaisthebest , 4/24/13 6:34 PM

It's not Nole tennis2011 is obsessed with.

I think Ferrer is just burned out from losing finals, he should take some positive pointers from Rafa.
