• Tomic begins Barcelona bid against De Schepper

Tomic begins Barcelona bid against De Schepper Australia's Bernard Tomic will take on French qualifier Kenny De Schepper as the second day of play gets underway at the Barcelona Open.

Bernard Tomic had a good start to the 2013 season. The Aussie won the event in Sydney and put in at least a respectable third round showing at the Australian Open.

Since then, however, the season has pretty well fallen apart. Except for a quarterfinal in Marseille and a couple of Davis Cup victories, it's been nothing but first and second round losses.

The good news is that De Schepper, ranked 102nd, is almost exclusively a Challenger level player. The Frenchman has enjoyed moderate success there, but his main tour win-loss record is 1-2 on the season.

De Schepper has already played a few matches in Barca, as he was forced to qualify for the event. But Tomic is the more experienced player by far, and he should have enough to get past De Schepper.
