• Robredo in action at Grand Prix Hassan II

    4/8/13 5:46 AM | Ricky Dimon
Robredo in action at Grand Prix Hassan II Tommy Robredo will kick off his Casablanca campaign on Monday. Up first for the veteran Spaniard is Guillaume Rufin.

Tommy Robredo and Guillaume Rufin will be going head-to-head for the first time in their careers when they meet in round one of the Grand Prix Hassan II on Monday.

Robredo did not start playing last season until May due to injury, but he is still showing decent form at 30 years old and he is back up to No. 72 in the world. The Spaniard is 6-8 at the ATP level in 2013, which includes a semifinal showing in Buenos Aires.

Rufin, 22, is at the other end of his career spectrum. The Frenchman owns four ATP-level wins this year and he registers five spots off his career-high ranking at 89th in the world. Rufin, who has also been dealing with injuries of late, failed to qualify in Indian Wells but he qualified in Miami and reached the second round before succumbing to Milos Raonic.

This would be competitive on any other surface, with an edge perhaps even going to Rufin. On clay, however, Robredo will be able to withstand his opponent's big serves and play his way into baseline rallies. Count on the veteran offering a clay-court lesson and it should not last more than two sets.
