Blake, Monfils open bids in Houston Former World No. 4 James Blake will begin his run at the US Men's Clay Court Championship, as he takes the court against former World No. 7 Gael Monfils. The players are slated to contest their fifth career meeting Monday evening.

James Blake will be looking to break a 2-2 series tie with Gael Monfils on Monday. The two last met at 2010 tournament in Brisbane, where the Frenchman rallied to win a quarterfinal match in three sets.

The players are level at 1-1 on clay.

Blake makes his return to competition following a third-round effort at the Masters 1000 Miami. The 33-year-old American is a former finalist at the US Men's Clay Court Championship, having finished runner-up to Spain's Marcel Granollers in 2008.

Monfils will attempt to regroup after suffering consecutive opening-round losses in Rotterdam and Marseilles. The 26-year-old Frenchman, ranked World No. 103 this week, is 8-6 for the season.

Monfils is set to make his US Men's Clay Court Championship debut Monday evening.
