"We both played with our hearts,” said Tsonga.

“My objective was to install my game and from the start to make him run, using my (forehand) a lot, and when he was tired my chances increased.

Tsonga is seeking his 13th Davis Cup singles victory.

Monaco leveled the tie for host nation Argentina with a straight-sets win over former World No. 6 Gilles Simon. The 29-year-old collected 22 winners and 6 service breaks through to a 7-6(2), 6-2, 6-4 success.

He is bidding for his 12th singles win in Davis Cup play.
