  • Del Potro, Blake in action Friday at the Sony Open

    3/22/13 3:50 AM | Cheryl Murray
Del Potro, Blake in action Friday at the Sony Open Juan Martin Del Potro will take on Tobias Kamke in his opening match in Miami, while wildcard James Blake will look for an upset win over Julien Benneteau.

Juan Martin Del Potro (5) vs. Tobias Kamke

Indian Wells finalist Juan Martin Del Potro will start his 2013 Miami bid against German Tobias Kamke. Del Potro had an outstanding run last week in the California desert. The Argentine took out Andy Murray in the quarterfinals and stunned Novak Djokovic in the semifinals. He came up short against Rafael Nadal in the final, but he was up a set and break before the Spaniard came storming back.

Del Potro may battle a bit with fatigue, especially later in the tournament, but he's had 5 days of rest since Sunday's final and should have plenty left in the tank for the world No. 89.

Kamke has a dismal 3-6 record so far this year. He failed to get out of the first round of qualifying in Indian Wells and lost in the first round of the Dallas Challenger last week.

Prediction - Del Potro in straight sets.

James Blake (WC) vs. Julien Benneteau (24)

World No. 95 James Blake played well in the first round against Ryan Harrison. And in this second round encounter, the veteran American will surely have the backing of the crowd as he takes on No. 24 seed Julien Benneteau of France. Unfortunately for Blake, Benneteau has played much better than Harrison has this year.

The Frenchman took out Roger Federer in the win of his career in Rotterdam en route to the final. Benneteau lost to Ivan Dodig in the second round in Indian Wells, but that also means that he will come into Miami well-rested.

Prediction - Blake might take a set, but expect Benneteau to move into the third round.
