World No. 7 Juan Martin Del Potro is set to highlight Sunday play at the Masters 1000 Indian Wells, as he takes the court against veteran Nikolay Davydenko. The players will be contesting their 6th career meeting on Sunday.
World No. 7 Juan Martin Del Potro trails former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko 2-3 in the series. The two last met at the 2012 tournament in Marseilles, where a round of 16 match went to the Argentine via retirement.
Del Potro makes his return to competition following a semifinal effort at the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships. The 24-year-old won a trio of matches before falling to eventual champion Novak Djokovic in straight sets. Del Potro is 11-3 for the season, bolstered by a title-winning run in Rotterdam.
The former US Open champion will be making his fifth appearance at the Masters 1000 Indian Wells, where he has reached the final eight or better on three occasions.
Davydenko dismissed France's Paul-Henri Mathieu in the opening round, 7-6(1), 6-2. The 31-year-old Russian remains on track to win his 9th match at the BNP Paribas Open.
Prediction: Del Potro in three sets.
