    Davydenko, Mathieu meet in Indian Wells opener Former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko is set to open his BNP Paribas Open campaign against France's Paul-Henri Mathieu. The veterans will be contesting their 11th career meeting on Friday.

    Former World No. 3 Nikolay Davydenko holds a slender 6-4 series edge against World No. 66 Paul-Henri Mathieu. The players last met at the 2012 tournament in Basel, where a round of 16 match went to the Frenchman in three sets.

    Davydenko makes his return to action following a quarterfinal finish in Dubai. The Russian won a pair of matches before falling to World No. 2 Roger Federer in straight sets. Davydenko is seeking his 10th victory of the season.

    Mathieu enters into the BNP Paribas Open in search of his first Tour-level win this season. The 31-year-old is 0-4, having lost opening-round matches in Melbourne, Montpellier, Rotterdam and Dubai. Mathieu will be making his appearance in Indian Wells on Friday.

    Prediction: Davydenko in three sets.
