  • Sock, Karlovic clash in Indian Wells first round

    3/7/13 4:23 PM | Ricky Dimon
Sock, Karlovic clash in Indian Wells first round Jack Sock will face another big server when he takes the court in Indian Wells on Friday. Sock is coming off a recent upset of Milos Raonic in Memphis.

Ivo Karlovic and Jack Sock will be going head-to-head for the first time in their careers when they clash in round one of the BNP Paribas Open on Friday.

Sock has been bringing in wild cards left and right this season and as a result he is up to a career-high ranking of No. 125 in the world. The 20-year-old American especially made the most of his opportunity in Memphis, where he ousted Milos Raonic and James Blake before falling in the quarterfinals of the 500-point event.

Karlovic may be slowly rounding into form after all kinds of injuries hampered him in 2012. The veteran Croat advanced one round last week in Delray Beach and he has already done well to qualify for the main draw in Indian Wells. This was the first time Karlovic has qualified this season after three previous qualification failures.

Like most matches, a lot of this will be on the Karlovic racket. If he serves well, the world No. 143 will have a great chance. Sock, however, is playing with confidence at the moment and his experience against Raonic can only help him. Sock in three sets is the pick.
