• Ferrer and Fognini battle for Acapulco final

    3/1/13 4:42 PM | Cheryl Murray
Ferrer and Fognini battle for Acapulco final David Ferrer and Fabio Fognini will take the court on Friday afternoon, with the winner moving on to Acapulco final.

Top Spaniard David Ferrer has made a career of defeating the players he is favored to beat. The world No. 4 has had limited success against the men ranked ahead of him (and Rafael Nadal, who is ranked No. 5), but he can usually be counted on to defeat most other players.

Fabio Fognini, Ferrer's semifinal opponent, is ranked 43rd in the world, way off Ferrer's mark. The Italian is not only at an disadvantage in the rankings, he has also amassed a personal head-to-head record of 0-4 against the top seed. He has taken exactly one set from Ferrer in those 4 matches.

Unfortunately for the Fognini camp, the bad news doesn't stop there. Ferrer has been in fantastic form this week, with the No. 1 seed ploughing his way through the draw in easy straight sets.

Prediction - Ferrer does everything Fognini can do, he just does it better. The Spaniard in straight sets.
