  • Del Potro, Baghdatis in Rotterdam quarterfinals

    2/15/13 2:53 AM | Cheryl Murray
Del Potro, Baghdatis in Rotterdam quarterfinals Juan Martin Del Potro will do battle with Finland's Jarkko Nieminen for a spot in Saturday's semifinal, as Marcos Baghdatis takes on young guy Grigor Dimitrov.

Juan Martin Del Potro (2) vs. Jarkko Nieminen

Juan Martin Del Potro's match-up with Jarkko Nieminen has proven to be a favorable one for the Argentine. The two men have met on three occasions, with Nieminen never even coming close to taking a set off Del Potro.

It's doubtful that Friday's match will be much different for the Finn. He hasn't faced a player anywhere near Del Potro's caliber this week, though he dished out a double-bagel to David Goffin in the first round. Still, it's unlikely that Nieminen's steady baseline game will make much of a dent in Del Potro's.

Prediction - Del Potro in comfortable straight sets.

    Marcos Baghdatis vs. Grigor Dimitrov

In the most intriguing of the quarterfinal matches, Marcos Baghdatis will take on the up-and-coming Grigor Dimitrov. Baghdatis is slightly higher ranked than Dimitrov, but both men seem to be on an upswing and playing well at the moment.

Baghdatis is certainly the more experienced and perhaps slightly more consistent than Dimitrov, but the Bulgarian has the flashier game and he's a better shot-maker. If Dimitrov is on, he could come away with the win, but if he donates errors to the Baghdatis cause, the Cypriot will advance.

    Prediction - Dimitrov in 3.

Baggy seemed to lose the plot in that second set tb. After that he went off the boil early in the third set.

Nice win for Dimitrov.
