    Del Potro, Cilic in second-round action Sixth seed Juan Martin Del Potro will attempt to secure a spot in the round of 32 with a victory over Germany's Benjamin Becker. The Argentine is joined in second-round play by 12 seed Marin Cilic, who takes on qualifier Rajeev Ram.

    World No. 7 Juan Martin Del Potro holds a 2-0 series edge against world No. 66 Benjamin Becker. Thursday signals their first career meeting in a main-draw event.

    Del Potro won his first match of the season with a comprehensive defeat of France's Adrian Mannarino. The 24-year-old Argentine collected seven aces and 24 winners en route to a 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 victory in 76 minutes.

    "I think I played really aggressive," Del Potro said. "I made a lot of winners with my forehand. I served well. I made a very good start to this Open."

    Del Potro looks to reach his fourth third-round berth at the tournament.

    Becker is through to the second round following a come-from-behind win against Slovenia's Aljaz Bedene. The 31-year-old veteran is seeking his first round of 32 berth at the Australian Open.

    (12) Marin Cilic vs. (Q) Rajeev Ram

    World No. 12 Marin Cilic made a successful start to the Australian Open, having upended Australia's Marinko Matosevic in straight sets. The 24-year-old tallied 9 aces and 34 winners through two hours and 22 minutes of play. Cilic remains on track to book his fifth consecutive round of 32 at the tournament.

    World No. 130 Rajeev Ram advanced to the second round with a four-sets ousting of Spain's Guillermo Garcia-Lopez. The American qualifier will attempt to make his first round of 32 berth at the Australian Open.
