    Tipsarevic takes on Hewitt in first round World No. 9 Janko Tipsarevic faces a tough challenge in former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt, as the two open their respective bids at the Australian Open. Joining the 8th seed in Monday play are fellow seeds Nicolas Almagro and Kei Nishikori.

    (8) Janko Tipsarevic vs. Lleyton Hewitt

    Eighth seed Janko Tipsarevic trails former world No. 1 Lleyton Hewitt 1-3 in the series. Monday marks their first meeting since 2009.

    Tipsarevic enters into the Australian Open with a 4-0 season record, courtesy of a title-winning effort in Chennai. The 28-year-old is a modest 9-8 in Melbourne after reaching the third round in 2012.

    Hewitt is back on court following a second-round loss to Denis Istomin in Brisbane. The 31-year veteran will be making his 17th appearance at the Australian Open, where he finished runner up to Marat Safin in 2005.

    (10) Nicolas Almagro vs. (Q) Steve Johnson

    World No. 11 Nicolas Almagro is set to make his season debut on Monday. The 27-year-old Spaniard is set to contest his 9th Australian Open, where he reached the round of 16 from 2010-2012.

    World No. 175 Steve Johnson is through to his first 2013 main-draw event after failing to qualify in Brisbane. The 23-year-old American is seeking his maiden victory at the Australian Open.

    (16) Kei Nishikori vs. Victor Hanescu

    World No. 18 Kei Nishikori leads world No. 63 Victor Hanescu 1-0 in the series, having won their only previous meeting at the 2012 tournament in Buenos Aires.

    Nishikori is 3-1 for the season after reaching the semifinal in Brisbane (lost to Murray). The 23-year-old, who made the 2012 Australian Open quarterfinal, is bidding for his 7th win at the Grand Slam.

    Hanescu enters into his 10th Australian Open looking to win his first main-draw match of the season. The 31-year-old veteran will attempt to record his first Melbourne victory since 2010.
