  • Paire and Bautista Agut get a chance at Chennai final

    1/5/13 6:00 AM | Cheryl Murray
Paire and Bautista Agut get a chance at Chennai final Surprise semfinalists Benoit Paire and Roberto Bautista Agut will clash in Saturday's second semi-final at the Aircel Chennai Open.

Benoit Paire is the No. 5 seed this week, but as his ranking is No. 47 in the world, his appearance in the final weekend of a tournament is not commonplace.

The Frenchman has a decent shot at making Sunday's final. His opponent is the biggest surprise of the tournament. Roberto Bautista Agut, the world No. 80 from Spain, got the win of his career in the quarterfinals over Tomas Berdych. His 2012 professional record was an anemic 3-12; he now has a legitimate shot at an ATP-level final.

Paire will be the heavy favorite in Saturday's semifinal if only because he has more experience than his Spanish opponent.

Prediction - Paire in three sets.
