• Frenchmen Chardy and Llodra in action at Paris Masters

    10/30/12 12:58 AM | Cheryl Murray
Frenchmen Chardy and Llodra in action at Paris Masters Jeremy Chardy and Michael Llodra will take the court at home in the last regular tournament of the ATP season.

    Jeremy Chardy vs. Guillermo Garcia-Lopez

The last time Jeremy Chardy met Guillermo Garcia-Lopez on a tennis court, the Spaniard handed down a brutal beatdown, winning 6-1, 6-0 on clay in Houston. But that was back in 2009. Chardy is ranked much higher than Garcia-Lopez at No. 34 in the world to the Spaniard's No. 70. Chardy has had some good results in 2012, most notably a run to the quarterfinals in Cincinnati after coming up through qualifying.

Garcia-Lopez's last good result came in Stuttgart on clay, where he made the semifinals, but that was back in July.

Prediction - With Chardy playing at home and on his preferred surface, he should have the edge in this one. The Frenchman in straight sets.

Michael Llodra (WC) vs. Radek Stepanek

This should be an entertaining and fast-moving first round match. Both players are more comfortable at net than they are at the baseline and they both play aggressive first-strike tennis.

The match-up seems to favor Stepanek. The Czech holds a 5-1 record over Llodra, whose ranking has dipped to No. 121 in the world. Their last meeting came way back in 2009 on the hard courts of the Australian Open tune-up event in Brisbane.

Prediction - Stepanek to get his 6th win over Llodra.
