Tsonga opens Paris bid against Benneteau World No. 7 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will begin his run at the Masters 1000 Paris on Tuesday, set to take on fellow Frenchman Julien Benneteau. Tuesday marks the pair’s eight career meeting.

Sixth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga holds a narrow 4-3 series lead against compatriot Julien Benneteau. The players will be meeting for the first time since Wimbledon 2010.

Tsonga enters into the Masters 1000 Paris with a 53-21 season record. The 27-year-old Frenchman, who won the title in 2008, advanced to last year’s final where he fell to world No. 1 Roger Federer.

Benneteau dismissed Serbia’s Viktor Troicki in the first round, 6-4, 7-5. The 30-year-old is seeking his 28th tour-level victory of the season.

    Prediction: Tsonga in straight sets.
