Verdasco, Hewitt look for quarterfinal spots in Valencia Spaniard Fernando Verdasco and Australian veteran Lleyton Hewitt will take to the court on Wednesday in Valencia to fight for spots in the quarterfinals.

Lleyton Hewitt (WC) vs. Ivan Dodig (Q)

World No. 91 Lleyton Hewitt finally seems to be playing better tennis, after years of battling injuries and surgery. The former world No. 1 will take on a favorable opponent on Wednesday in Ivan Dodig of Croatia, who qualified for the event.

Dodig upset Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round. The Croat is ranked 110th in the world; he accrues most of his ranking points on the Challenger circuit. His last main tour match win came at the US Open where he beat world No. 231 Hiroki Moriya.

Hewitt comes into Valencia off a quarterfinal showing in Stockholm, a result he should at least match this week. The Aussie in straight sets.

Fernando Verdasco vs. Marin Cilic (7)

This will be the 8th meeting between Fernando Verdasco and Croat Marin Cilic. Verdasco, who is ranked 24 to Cilic's 14, holds a slight 4-3 edge in lifetime meetings. But it was Cilic who came out on top in their last meeting, just a couple of weeks ago at the Shanghai Masters.

Verdasco will have and edge this time, as they are playing in Spain and he will have the backing of the crowd. But the Spaniard is also notoriously inconsistent. His post-US Open results have ranged from mediocre to terrible, including a first round ouster in Beijing.

Cilic had an extra day of rest, as the only seed who advanced to the second round on Sunday, amongst a host of qualifying matches.

    Prediction - Cilic in 3.
