• Seppi back in action against Paire

    10/25/12 4:59 PM | Ricky Dimon
Seppi back in action against Paire Andreas Seppi will take the court in Basel following a triumph on the hard courts of Moscow. Seppi and Benoit Paire are bidding for second-round spots while Julien Benneteau and Grigor Dimitrov battle for the quarterfinals.

Benoit Paire vs. (5) Andreas Seppi

Seppi will take the court at the Swiss Indoors Basel on Wednesday, three days after capturing the Moscow title. The veteran Italian is wrapping up the best season of his career, which includes a 37-25 record and two of his three titles.

One of those triumphs came this spring on the clay courts of Belgrade, where Seppi beat Paire 6-3, 6-2 in the final (their only previous encounter). Paire also registers at a career-high of 46th in the rankings, but he has lost nine of his last 12 matches. The Frenchman will have a chance to capitalize on his opponent's possible fatigue, but Seppi should advance.

    Julien Benneteau vs. Grigor Dimitrov

Benneteau and Dimitrov will be facing each other for the second time in their careers and for the second time this season on Wednesday in Basel. Dimitrov prevailed 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 in a first-round encounter on the clay courts of Gstaad. The 21-year-old Bulgarian was expected to have climbed even further by this point, but he is a respectable 22-17 for his 2012 campaign after hammering Viktor Troicki in round one.

However, Benneteau should be a tougher proposition based on current form. The 30-year-old Frenchman is 26-21 for the season and making a push for Australian Open seeding at 37th in the world. He trailed Andrey Kuznetsov by a set and a break on Monday but came back for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 victory. Benneteau in three sets is the pick.
