  • Seppi, Bellucci square off for Kremlin Cup title

    10/20/12 11:43 PM | Ricky Dimon
Seppi, Bellucci square off for Kremlin Cup title Two of the top four seeds are through to Sunday's title match in Moscow. Either Andreas Seppi or Thomaz Bellucci will win the first hard-court title of his career.

Andreas Seppi and Thomaz Bellucci will be meeting for the third time in their careers when they collide in the final of the Kremlin Cup on Sunday. Both of their previous encounters came on clay; Seppi prevailed 7-6(0), 5-7, 7-5 two years ago in Hamburg before Bellucci rolled 6-1, 6-2, 6-4 last season at the French Open.

Belucci appears to be rounding into form just in time to end an otherwise lackluster 2012 campaign in style. The 41st-ranked Brazilian has improved his record to 25-19 and he is making a late push for Australian Open seeding. So far in Moscow, Bellucci has taken out Flavio Cipolla, Jerzy Janowicz, and Ivo Karlovic.

Seppi, meanwhile, is wrapping up the best season of his career at 28 years old. The 25th-ranked Italian is poised to reach a new career-high following convincing wins this week over Igor Sijsling, Tatsuma Ito, and Malek Jaziri.

This is Seppi's fourth ATP final of 2012; he lost in Eastbourne and Metz but triumphed in Belgrade. Bellucci captured the Gstaad title earlier this season. Neither man has ever won a hard-court title, and Bellucci had never previously advanced to a final on anything other than clay.

"It has been the best year in my career so far and I feel great playing indoors," Seppi noted. "With Bellucci there will be a lot of rallies. It is a final and we will both want to win so badly."

Based on an edge in current form and surface, Seppi in three sets is the pick.

I like Seppi too, and yes he does look like a nice guy. I hope he wins some more titles.

Seppi is one of the hardworking journeymen whose results belie his abilities but when he is in form he is capable of giving the top guys a fright. I wonder if he will be like Melzer/Fish etc. and start producing his best results late in his career.

Good to see two lower ranked players battling it out in the final.

Seppi for the win.

Good to see these two guys get to a final. Nice to see Seppi getting his best results at the age of 28!

This should be a competitive, lively match. May the best man win, but personally I would like to see Seppi take it.

When he was broken in the 2nd set I was wondering if you forget to tell Seppi this? It was closer than I expected but all's well that ends well.
