Del Potro opens Vienna bid on Wednesday World No. 8 Juan Martin Del Potro makes his return to competition Wednesday evening, set to take on German qualifier Daniel Brands. The winner moves on to secure a quarterfinal berth at the Erste Bank Open.

    (1) Juan Martin Del Potro vs. (Q) Daniel Brands

Top seed Juan Martin Del Potro is back on court after a wrist injury kept him out of action for a month. The 24-year-old is 53-14 entering into the Erste Bank Open, aided by a pair of title-winning runs earlier this season. Del Potro advanced to last year's final, where he finished runner-up to France's Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in three sets.

World No. 111 Daniel Brands rallied to defeat fellow qualifier Ruben Bemelmans in the opening round. The 25-year-old German is seeking his first tour-level quarterfinal since April, when he made the last eight in Bucharest.

    (4) Jurgen Melzer vs. Gilles Muller

Fourth seed Jurgen Melzer holds a 2-0 head-to-head series advantage over world No. 81 Gilles Muller. Wednesday signals their first meeting since 2006.

Melzer looks to rebound after suffering an early exit at the Masters 1000 Shanghai. The world No. 37 failed to win a match at the tournament, falling to France's Gilles Simon in straight sets. Melzer will be making his 13th appearance in Vienna, with championship titles earned in 2009 and 2010.

Muller recorded a three-sets victory over Belgium's Steve Darcis in the opening round. The veteran is bidding for his 20th tour-level win of the season.

Why do I have a feeling that Delpo is rushing back from injury again? A guy with his history should consider skipping the rest of the year as a precaution. Won't be surprised to see him making a mistake here and not being healthy for AO.
