    (13) Stanislas Wawrinka vs. Albert Ramos

World No. 17 Stanislas Wawrinka holds a 1-0 series edge against world No. 46 Albert Ramos, having won their only previous meeting earlier this season in Acapulco. Tuesday marks their first hard-court contest.

Wawrinka makes his return to action following a quarterfinal finish at the Japan Open. The 27-year-old Swiss recorded consecutive victories before falling to reigning US Open champion Andy Murray in three sets. Wawrinka will be making his fourth appearance at the Masters 1000 Shanghai this week.

Ramos looks to regroup after suffering an early loss at the Japan Open. The 24-year-old was unable to win a match at the event, having fallen to Slovakia's Lukas Lacko in the opening round. Ramos is seeking his 24th tour-level victory on Tuesday.

    Denis Istomin vs. Carlos Berlocq

World No. 44 Denis Istomin will attempt to level a 1-0 series deficit against world No. 49 Carlos Berlocq on Tuesday. The players are set to meet for the first time since 2008.

Istomin is a modest 28-29 for the season after losing a first-round match to world No. 6 Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the China Open. The 26-year-old is bidding for his first victory at the Masters 1000 Shanghai.

Berlocq is back on court following a second-round defeat to world No. 2 Novak Djokovic in Beijing. The Argentine veteran remains on course to win his 24th match of the season.
