    Monaco, Verdasco battle in Shanghai second round World No. 10 Juan Monaco is set to open his campaign at the Shanghai Rolex Masters, as he takes on former World No. 7 Fernando Verdasco. The players are slated to contest their 10th career meeting on Tuesday.

    Seventh seed Juan Monaco holds a 6-3 series lead against world No. 23 Fernando Verdasco. Tuesday signals their first hard-court meeting since 2006.

    Monaco makes his return to competition after a round of 16 finish at the Japan Open. The recent Kuala Lumpur champion won his first-round match in Tokyo before falling to former world No. 8 Marcos Baghdatis, 5-7, 6-1, 3-6. Monaco is a former semifinalist in Shanghai, having made the final four in 2010.

    Verdasco won his first-round match over Japan's Go Soeda on Sunday, 6-2, 6-4. The 28-year-old Spaniard is seeking his 31st match-win of the season.

    (10) Marin Cilic vs. Martin Klizan

    Tenth seed Marin Cilic leads World No. 34 Martin Klizan 1-0 in the series, having won their only previous meeting at the 2012 US Open.

    Cilic recorded his first victory in Shanghai with a straight-sets upending of veteran Lukasz Kubot. The world No. 16 will attempt to win his 36th match in 2012.

    Kilzan defeated Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci in the opening round, 6-3, 6-4. The 23-year-old will be looking to extend his season record to 20-12 on Tuesday.
