Tokyo - Berdych, Tipsarevic bid for semifinals World No. 6 Tomas Berdych is back on court to face fellow seed Kei Nishikori for a semifinal berth at the Japan Open. The players are joined in quarterfinal action by 3rd seed Janko Tipsarevic, who takes on 6th seed Milos Raonic early Friday.

    (2) Tomas Berdych vs. (8) Kei Nishikori

World No. 6 Tomas Berdych will attempt to level a 1-2 series deficit against world No. 17 Kei Nishikori. Nishikori leads 2-0 in hard-court matches.

Berdych advanced to the quarterfinal by virtue of his straight-set victory over Colombia's Alejandro Falla. The second seed is seeking his seventh semifinal berth in 2012.

Nishikori is through to the last eight after rallying to defeat former world No. 5 Tommy Robredo, 5-7, 6-1, 6-0. The 22-year-old looks to record his 33rd match win of the season.

    (3) Janko Tipsarevic vs. (6) Milos Raonic

Third seed Janko Tipsarevic trails sixth seed Milos Raonic 1-0 in the series, having lost their only previous meeting at the 2012 tournament in Chennai.

Tipsarevic made the quarterfinals following his straight-set win against Swiss qualifier Marco Chiudinelli. The 28-year-old looks to secure his second consecutive semifinal berth on Friday.

Raonic passed into the last eight after opponent Viktor Troicki retired at 0-3 with a right calf injury. The 21-year-old is bidding for his first semifinal since late April, when he reached the final four in Barcelona.

Good to see Raonic shake off the loss of the first set and come back strong in the second to win it 6-2. He seems to have a lot of resiliency. This third set should be exciting, hopefully.
