    10/4/12 5:42 PM | Kelli DeMario
Murray meets Wawrinka in Tokyo quarterfinal Defending champion Andy Murray looks to extend his run at the Japan Open, set to take on Switzerland's Stanislas Wawrinka. The players are slated to contest their 12th career meeting on Friday.

World No. 3 Andy Murray leads world No. 16 Stanislas Wawrinka 7-4 in the series. The Scot has won five of six meetings since their round of 16 match at the 2008 Masters Series Canada.

Murray is through to the quarterfinals after ousting Slovakia's Lukas Lacko in under an hour, 6-1, 6-2. The defending champion will attempt to make his eighth semifinal this season.

Wawrinka advanced to the final eight having held off France's Jeremy Chardy in three sets. The 27-year-old Swiss is seeking his first semifinal since August, when he made the last four at the Masters 1000 Cincinnati.

    Prediction: Murray in straight sets.

Stan has proved trixy for Andy in the past, so I hope Kelli's prediction is right.
Let's Go Andy. Let's Go. :)

2-3 years back I'd have been quite scared of this one. Yep, something like 6-4, 6-2
would be really nice :-)

Just checked the opinion poll for shanghai. 56% say roger, 17% say muzz. Folks just aren't getting it.

Nice one, muzz, played some great tennis against a powerful opponent.

Good warm-up for raonic ...

At least you people can watch it at a decent hour. The time difference is horrendous. So I have to wait for the tennis channel replay every day. Sometimes I don't come here to check the score and just watch the matches.

Raonic/Tipsy was a good one. Raonic had to come back after he kind of let that first set tb slip away. But he did well.

I think Muzz will be ready for him. He knows what to expect.

Knew Andy would find Stan trixy, especially in 3. Thought he was gonna do an "Obama" for a minute...;) but Phew!
Let's Go Andy! Let's Go!
NNY, it can be very early here in the UK, like 5a.m. :)

Deuce, that's a great comparison! :)))

I would love to watch the Murray/Raonic match but not sure I will get up at 4 am for it. I'll watch the recording.

nadline , 10/5/12 10:40 AM

I'll be setting my alarm to watch that one.

Having just watched Nishikori outwit Berdych will be watching the 2nd SF with interest too.

If Milos beats Muzz, he will become the No. 1 North American in the Race to London passing Isner in the process.

deuce, 10/5/12 10:27 AM,

Oh, I didn't realize that you also have problems with the time difference. That's tough to try to get up that early. I have just basically resigned myself to seeing the replays. As it is I watch only what I really want to see. Andy and Raonic will be must see tennis.

So Nishikoir defeated Berdy! Wow! Very interesting result!

I am not surprised by how well Murray is doing. The albatross is no longer around his neck. He can play with less pressure. He has his first slam and no longer has to answer that pesky question - when will you win a slam?

He is free now to enjoy tennis.

Nativenewyorker , 10/5/12 10:19 PM

nny - yes, I'm feeling just the same about muzz. I'm starting to feel so confident that I'm even losing faith in my power to jinx him:-) With hard courts all the way to May I'm thinking positive thoughts, and there could be some mouth-watering (not behind-the-sofa) battles with nole.
