  • Ferrer and Dolgopolov make 2012 Kuala Lumpur debuts

    9/27/12 4:21 AM | Cheryl Murray
Ferrer and Dolgopolov make 2012 Kuala Lumpur debuts Tournament top seed David Ferrer will take on Alex Bogomolov, Jr. in his first match at the Malaysian Open.

David Ferrer (1) vs. Alex Bogomolov, Jr.

World No. 5 David Ferrer comes into Kuala Lumpur fresh off a successful Davis Cup semifinal over the United States. He also had an outstanding run to the semifinals of the US Open and had a quarterfinal showing at Wimbledon to show for his efforts this summer.

He will take on Russian Alex Bogomolov, Jr., who is ranked 90th in the world. Bogomolov has had a terrible season, with his best result coming at a clay-court Challenger event in Brazil.

Ferrer would need to play a disastrous match to lose to Bogomolov. The Spaniard is one of the most consistent players on tour these days. Ferrer in easy straight sets.

Alexandr Dolgopolov (4) vs. Alejandro Falla

The Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov already has a win over Colombian Alejandro Falla this year. The two men met on the hard courts of Brisbane, where Dolgopolov won in straight sets.

Dolgopolov has had some good results on hard courts this season, including capturing the title in Washington. His ranking sits at No. 20 in the world at the moment.

Falla hasn't fared quite as well this season. The clay-courter is ranked 61st in the world right now, with his best result of the summer coming at Wimbledon, where he won a couple of matches before going down to Denis Istomin in the third round.

Prediction - Dolgopolov in straight sets.
