• Djokovic and Del Potro in second round action on Friday

    8/31/12 3:01 PM | Cheryl Murray
Djokovic and Del Potro in second round action on Friday Defending US Open champion Novak Djokovic and the Ukraine's Alexandr Dolgopolov will take the court on Friday as week one in New York wraps up.

Novak Djokovic (2) vs. Rogerio Dutra Silva

World No. 2 Novak Djokovic will take on Brazilian Rogerio Dutra Silva, ranked 112 in the world. Dutra Silva is a player who has had limited success on the Challenger circuit. He spends much of his time on clay courts. The prospect of taking on the US Open defending champion on Arthur Ashe stadium, the biggest tennis venue in the world, will surely be daunting for the Brazilian.

Djokovic should tear through this match in easy straight sets. Dutra Silva will do well to get more than 3 games per set against the Serb.

Juan Martin Del Potro vs. Ryan Harrison

American Ryan Harrison, the world No. 61, has had a terrible summer hard court swing. He has only played 4 matches (including his first round win over Benjamin Becker) and lost 2 of them. Del potro, the world No. 8 from Argentina is a US Open champion; he won the event in an impressive display of power tennis back in 2009.

Del Potro has had pain in his left wrist, though it is reported to be different than the right wrist problem that ultimately kept him out of the 2010 season. Still, the Argentine has been striking the ball well and his heavy groundstrokes are likely to cause all sorts of problems for the often passive Harrison.

Prediction- Del Potro in straight sets.

It's a shame Harrison choked away those break points in the 4th. I don't know if he could have pushed it to a 5th had he converted, but he's still clearly lacking mentally if he wants to really break through

Can Djokolvic's draw get any easier? It's a shame the draws are set up to favor the top players. albeit I'm a Fed fan, I'd still like to him play more competitive opponents. The draws are very top 4 favored. Holw can any other player break through when they have to face players that are tough in the early rounds? It's ridiculous. Tennis needs to change the draw format to give the top guys much more difficult draws not nurse them so they can get to the finals without breaking a swaet.

Djokovic has his egg in New Jersay, where he's residing throuighout the USO, and an easy draw. Who can stop him from getting to the finals.

federer won 50% of his GS titles based on cupcake draws.

yep, it is good nole has the egg, he should spank ballerina in the finals (in the case murray fails to do so).

LOL...scoretrasher in full glory...
Fact that he is so ignorant and uneducated doesn't bother him to spread stupidity on TT.
Fed fan is complaining about easy draw... LOL...
Nole has his egg... Fed has his Mirka... find the differences :)
ANDY....Andy.....Andy..... aren't we terrified... scaaaaaary.... poor Fed :)

Delpo was never threatened. Harrison was running on momentum, Delpo was running on raw skill. That was the difference here.

Fed's going to do a Swan Lake on all of them, just watch him go.
