Third seed Andy Murray made a successful start to the US Open, having upended Russia’s Alex Bogomolov in straight sets. The 25-year-old Scot tallied 46 winners and 9 service breaks through to a 6-2, 6-4, 6-1 victory.

Murray is seeking his 42nd match win of the season.

World No. 118 Ivan Dodig won his opening-round match over Japan’s Hiroki Moriya in straight sets. The 27-year-old converted seven of 14 break points en route to a 6-0, 6-1, 6-2 win.

Dodig can take Murray to a tiebreaker or two.

Am I seeing straight? Murray plays his 2nd round match a full day before Fed? Where are the scheduling conspirators?

chr18 , 8/29/12 2:03 PM

The conspirators are just trying to dent the evidence because it's been well documented of rigged draws and scheduling in favour of one player. Once they've done that normal service will be resumed.

nadline , 8/29/12 3:03 PM

Well ,Dr. chr18 has objectively examined all schedules and draws from the last 5 years and has concluded that everything is random and fair. He would NEVER cherry pick just a few examples taken out of context .

He IS a doctor and has an iPad so who are we to question or to suggest anything otherwise???

By the way, shouldn't you be spending more time with your family?

Conspirator , 8/29/12 3:17 PM

And besides, Dr. chr18, everything I've said has referred to Nole and Rafa who've either been No. 1 or defending champion, not Muzz.

Conspirator , 8/29/12 3:26 PM

Dodig used up his Rosol moment last summer in Montreal. So nothing up his sleeve this time.

RickyDimon , 8/29/12 3:59 PM

Lol Ricky, fingers crossed you're right :)
Can't remember when Andy last had a Monday start! Or a night match in the first week. Gold seems to speak ;)
Let's Go Andy Let's Go!

deuce , 8/29/12 4:18 PM

Dodig could take a set (in tb) if Andy plays the way he did in the 1st round. But he will surely rise his level for this match.

Emiliano55 , 8/29/12 5:42 PM

Dodig can be a tricky player.

Deuce, LOL at "gold seem to speak" :))
Btw, are you watching young Robson? Few points away from beating Kim C? Two points now... Impressive.

danica , 8/30/12 12:24 AM

If people want to be fair, djokovic has played the most night matches beginning with AO2011 to the present. I can't understand why he's given so many night matches.

Dunno why there's selective facts mentioned. Didn't Murray play most of this matches on Centre Court Wimbledon, and quite a few under the roof? But it's only when Fed plays under the roof or gets a night match that it's mentioned. The others being favored is swept under the carpet.

scoretracker , 8/30/12 12:24 AM

re: Djokovic - maybe he has been given night matches the same way Roger always had them? I remember counting the daytime matches at the AO09 when he was the defending champ. He was given mid day matches during the worst heat even though he was defending the title, was the #3 and was known for having problems breathing in such hot conditions. He was denied fair tournament, just like Kuznetsova who was not allowed the roof to be closed, but when Serena asked for it, they did it. Anyhow, maybe it was time for his share of prime time matches.

danica , 8/30/12 2:09 AM

@danica, perhaps you're right. I know at the USO, they give the night matches to the top 4 players and it's done on a rotation basis. The Americans, albeit it's their tournament, aren't favored for the night matches. Sharapova, gets favored a lot, don't know why coz she's such an ingrate.

I believe when Serena requested the roof it was way above the heat index and it's the reason the roof was closed. At the AO it has to get up to a certain temperature for them to close the roof.

This year AO, nearly all of Djokovic's matches were played at night, and I've noticed that happening a lot elsewhere. I don't think Fed cares coz he likes to go to sleep before 11:00 m, and now that he has his girls, I think he wants that even more. Thus, it's not Fed who requests the night matches it's the tourney director who schedules them, and it's all coz Fed's a big ticket seller.

scoretracker , 8/30/12 3:33 AM

another boring night match. Thus far, Fed's match was the only competitive match at night. The commentators were saying that the crowd was unhappy about the short duration of the night matches. The guy murray is playing is ranked 119. Lorenzi was ranked 69, and Young's ranked 81, Anderson 's ranked 34. Ferrer's had the toughest opponent, followed by Fed.

These first round matches will continue to be a bore-fest for the top 4, coz their opponents are too easy. It's my main complaint abolut the draws.

scoretracker , 8/30/12 4:17 AM

Wow,Murray played at a high level and Dodig is no slouch. If Murray could take this form to the final he would win.

stratocast51 , 8/30/12 4:52 AM

See why we shouldn't judge a player by one match? Murray looked like a different player tonight. Sometimes it takes a match or two before a player starts getting into his best form.

Nice win from Murray! I enjoyed watching him play some solid tennis.

Nativenewyorker , 8/30/12 5:09 AM

Thanx for the POSITIVE comments everyone. :) Ignoring others.
