Tipsarevic, Mayer aim for Cincinnati third round Janko Tipsarevic will begin in Cincinnati on Wednesday against Pablo Andujar. Florian Mayer and Nikolay Davydenko are also in action.

    (7) Janko Tipsarevic vs. Pablo Andujar

Tipsarevic and Andujar will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers at the ATP level when they collide in round two of the Western & Southern Open on Wednesday. Their only previous meeting came three years ago on the hard courts of Chennai, where Tipsarevic cruised 6-3, 6-2. The eighth-ranked Serb is a heavy favorite once again, coming in with a 44-17 record for the season. He reached the Toronto semifinals last week before losing to countryman Novak Djokovic.

Andujar broke through in 2011 as a 25-year-old, but he is struggling in 2012 with a 17-20 record. The 40th-ranked Spaniard had lost six matches in a row prior to Toronto, where he advanced one round. Andujar kicked off his week in Cincinnati with a 6-4, 6-3 rout of Marinko Matosevic. The underdog will grind and won't make life easy on his opponent, but Tipsarevic in straight sets is the pick.

    Nikolay Davydenko vs. Florian Mayer

Davydenko will be going from one junk-baller to another when he takes the court on Wednesday in Cincinnati. The 31-year-old Russian delivered an unexpected 6-1, 6-1 thrashing of Alexandr Dolgopolov on Monday and next up for him is the unorthodox Mayer. This marks their sixth career ATP meeting, with Davydenko leading the head-to-head series 3-2.

Mayer opened with a 7-5, 6-2 victory over qualifier Fabio Fognini on Monday. The 24th-ranked German has mostly slumped in 2012 (he owns a 16-19 record), but a trip to the Wimbledon quarterfinals has managed to salvage his ranking. Look for Mayer to get the job done in an entertaining three-setter.
