  • Murray begins Cincinnati campaign against Querrey

    8/15/12 4:29 AM | Cheryl Murray
Murray begins Cincinnati campaign against Querrey Gold medalist Andy Murray will play his first match since pulling out of Toronto last week with a knee injury. The Scot will take on American Sam Querrey.

    Andy Murray vs. Sam Querrey

Andy Murray has been playing some of the best tennis of his career in the last month. The Wimbledon finalist went into his home Olympics and crushed Roger Federer to win gold. But he suffered a knee injury in his first match at the Toronto Masters and withdrew from the tournament.

If he's healthy, Murray will be heavily favored against Sam Querrey. The two men have met five times, with Murray winning four of the encounters. Querrey's only win came at their last meeting, back in L.A. in 2010.

Prediction - Murray's game works nicely on the fast courts in Cincy. Even though Querrey has had a great couple of months, including the title in L.A. and the semis in Washington, the world No. 28 still lacks the necessary consistency to win with the best in the game. If Murray is healthy, he should win in three.

    Lleyton Hewitt vs. Viktor Troicki

Serbia's Viktor Troicki is ranked almost exactly 100 spots higher than veteran Lleyton Hewitt at No. 32 to Hewitt's No. 134. But Hewitt's ranking is massively deceiving. The Aussie is only just now fully recovered from toe surgery that saw his ranking drop badly due to lack of play. Hewitt's actual form is more in line with a top 20 player, as evidenced by his upset win over Mikhail Youzhny on Monday night.

Hewitt is a top-notch hard-court player when he's healthy, which he finally appears to be. Troicki had a good showing at Wimbledon, where he advanced to the fourth round, but his only hard-court tournament this summer so far resulted in a second-round ouster at the hands of Milos Raonic (in Toronto).

Prediction - Hewitt in straight sets.
