  • Querrey and Roddick take the court in first round Cincy action

    8/14/12 7:57 AM | Cheryl Murray
Querrey and Roddick take the court in first round Cincy action Countrymen Andy Roddick and Sam Querrey will be in action in a jam-packed day at the Cincinnati Masters.

    Andy Roddick vs. Jeremy Chardy

American Andy Roddick's career is seeing a revival. After more than a year without a title, the veteran has won two since June, including a hard-court title in Atlanta. The American sits just outside the top 20 at No. 21. He comes into this first-round match with a trio of wins over French opponent Jeremy Chardy in as many meetings. The two players collided this year already on the grass courts of Eastbourne, a tournament that Roddick eventually won.

Roddick will have the support of the crowd as well as good momentum coming into the event. Expect a win for the veteran American.

    Sam Querrey vs. Jurgen Melzer

Austria's Jurgen Melzer is probably not eager to see Sam Querrey in his draw again. The two men met last week in Toronto for the first time; Melzer lost 6-3, 6-2. Querrey, like Roddick, seems to be finding the form that deserted him for the past season. The American has a hard-court win this summer already in Los Angeles and a semifinal showing a few weeks ago in Washington, which he played instead of the Olympics.

Melzer is ranked 36th in the world, and he hasn't won more than one match in a tournament since the Miami Masters in March. Expect Querrey to take this one.

Cmon Andy!

Apparently Roddick hurt his back toward the end of the first set. According to the commentators he just held on to finish the match. Poor guy, it seems that his body is just breaking down. Since injuring his shoulder in Rome a few years ago, and then contracting mono in 2010, Roddick has never been the same. Too bad that he can't seem to get things rolling for a considerable amount of time, before another injury pops up.
