  • Murray and Raonic play under the lights in Toronto

    8/9/12 3:22 AM | Cheryl Murray
Murray and Raonic play under the lights in Toronto Andy Murray and hometown hero Milos Raonic will be showcased as the primetime match at the Toronto Masters.

Newly-crowned Olympic gold medalist is just a few days removed from a pair of finals (men's singles and mixed doubles) on Sunday in London. With little rest, Murray came to the Canadian Open and secured a straight-set victory over Flavio Cipolla.

But in the process, the Scot had difficulty with his left knee which required a medical timeout. And his third-round opponent, Milos Raonic, is a player he has not beaten before.

The two men have played just once, earlier this year on the clay courts of Barcelona. The Canadian, who is ranked 24th in the world, won that encounter in straight sets.

Raonic will have the benefit of playing in front of the home crowd, as well as the advantage of plenty of rest coming into the North American season.

Prediction – Raonic in straight sets.

Hah! I just realized that we are finally in the NA hard court season! It's only three hours ahead of me. No more late nights, no more having to record matches. I can see it all live!

This is one match I plan to see. It will be interesting to see what Murray has left after his big Olympic win. I am also anxious to see how Raonic looks.

I only stay up that late to watch you know who so I'm free of late nights this week.

Murray in straight sets not even a tiebreak...

chenna21 , 8/9/12 11:10 AM

I wouldn't pick Raonic just on beating Murray the one time they've met but if Murray has an injury he may be at a disadvantage.

nadline , 8/9/12 11:45 AM

I think raonic has a chance for the simple reason that murray's gotta be emotionally fatigued from his olympic win. I still give murray the edge, but a raonic win wouldn't come as a complete surprise.

Ricky, I don't understand what you men by 'WDed'. Has Murray withdrawn?
