  • Young looks to end losing streak against Chardy

    8/6/12 6:10 AM | Ricky Dimon
Young looks to end losing streak against Chardy Donald Young has lost 15 matches in a row heading into his first-rounder against Jeremy Chardy on Monday in Toronto. Andreas Seppi and Vasek Pospisil are also in action.

    Jeremy Chardy vs. Donald Young

It began with a second-round Memphis loss to John Isner in late February. Now it's early August and Young's losing streak is still in full force. It has included setbacks against Ryan Sweeting in Delray Beach, Jamie Baker in Eastbourne, and Steve Johnson in Atlanta. As a whole, Young is 2-18 for his 2012 campaign and he has plunged to 84th in the ATP rankings.

Up next for the 23-year-old American is a first-rounder at the Rogers Cup against Chardy on Monday. Chardy was horrendous in 2011 but he is a decent 15-14 at the ATP level this season. The 47th-ranked Frenchman hasn't lost in the first round of any tournament since April (Bucharest). Look for Chardy to win his first meeting with Young in three sets.

(WC) Vasek Pospisil vs. Andreas Seppi

Pospisil and Seppi will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers when they do battle in Toronto on Monday. Seppi won their only previous encounter 7-5, 7-6(4) last fall on the indoor hard courts of St. Petersburg. The 28-year-old Italian is in the midst of his best season on tour, which includes 24 match victories and a title in Belgrade. Seppi reached a career-high ranking of No. 24 in June and he currently registers at 26th.

While he enjoyed a raucous home crowd en route to the Rome quarterfinals this spring, Seppi will be on the road for this one. At 104th in the world, Pospisil is Canada's No. 2 player behind Milos Raonic. He advanced one round at this event last year before losing to Roger Federer in two relatively competitive sets. Pospisil, though, is a ghastly 0-11 at the ATP level in 2012. Count on Seppi prevailing in straight sets.
