  • Djokovic, Tsonga collide in Olympics quarterfinals

    8/2/12 6:11 AM | Ricky Dimon
Djokovic, Tsonga collide in Olympics quarterfinals Familiar foes Novak Djokovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will renew their rivalry on Thursday in London. The winner will go up against either Andy Murray or Nicolas Almagro in the semifinals.

Novak Djokovic and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga will be squaring of for the 12th time in their careers when they clash in the quarterfinals of the London Olympics on Thursday.

Djokovic is just barely leading the head-to-head series 6-5 after recently winning perhaps their most memorable encounter. Tsonga held four match points in the quarters of this year's French Open before Djokovic ultimately prevailed 6-1, 5-7, 5-7, 7-6(6), 6-1. The Serb took their only previous grass-court encounter 7-6(4), 6-2, 6-7(9), 6-3 last season in the Wimbledon semis.

It has not been entirely smooth sailing for Djokovic so far at this event. Sandwiched around an impressive destruction of an in-form Andy Roddick, the world No. 2 dropped sets to both Fabio Fognini (6-7(7), 6-2, 6-2) and Lleyton Hewitt (4-6, 7-5, 6-1). Still, Djokovic is into yet another quarterfinal (hasn't missed one yet this season) and his record for the year has improved to 44-7.

Tsonga, meanwhile, has been the show-stealer of this week. The sixth-ranked Frenchman won a three-set thriller over Thomaz Bellucci then outlasted Milos Raonic 6-3, 3-6, 25-23 in the longest set in the history of the Olympics. Tsonga, a semifinalist at Wimbledon last month, is 37-13 for his 2012 campaign.

The underdog's Roland Garros showing against Djokovic is reason for hope, especially because clay in his worst surface. Tsonga is lethal on grass if his serve is working, so an upset is not out of the question. Look for Djokovic to survive in three entertaining sets.

HAVE A LOOK AT THE STATS- A SURE UPSET- TSONGA TO WIN MAKE GRASS 1-1 AND LONDON 1-1; QTR FINALS 3-2 AFTER THIS MATCH, FINALS THEY ARE 1-1, SEMIS TSONGA LEADS 2-1. AND 6-6 IN HEAD TO HEAD AFTER THIS; I THINK IF TSONGA TAKES FIRST SET HE WILL WIN IN STRAIGHT OTHERWISE THREE, I THINK ONE SET TO TSONGA 6-2, THE OTHER A TIEBREAK AND IF THREE IT COULD BE 7-5, 3-6, 6-2

Have you any idea how this guy's mind works Deucy? I think he must have been a trainspotter before he took up the sport of tennis predictions.
