  • Kohlschreiber, Haase clash for Kitzbuhel title

Kohlschreiber, Haase clash for Kitzbuhel title The Olympics being right around the corner didn't stop Philipp Kohlschreiber and Robin Haase from success in Kitzbuhel. They will face each other for the title on Saturday before playing in London on Sunday.

Philipp Kohlschreiber and Robin Haase will be going head-to-head for the first time in their careers when they meet in the bet-at-home Cup final on Saturday afternoon.

Kohlschreiber is playing awesome tennis in 2012, and his 36-16 record has him poised to break into the Top 20 in the world for the first time in his career. The German, a winner on the clay courts of Munich earlier this year, booked his spot in the title match thanks to victories over Attila Balazs, Lukas Rosol, and Filippo Volandri. This is his fifth consecutive tournament in which he has advanced to at least the quarterfinals.

Haase has always been inconsistent, but he is nearing a .500 record for the season (17-18 right now) following wins this week over Philipp Oswald, Wayne Odesnik, and Martin Klizan. The Dutchman, who is the defending champ in Kitzbuhel, registers at No. 42 in the world and is on course to reach a new career-high ranking.

Both players are heading to the London Olympics and will have zero days' rest prior to their first-rounders on Sunday. You can bet they won't want to stick around in Kitzbuhel for nothing, so a hard-fought battle from start to finish can be expected.

Based on current form and a slight advantage on the slow stuff, Kohlschreiber in two competitive sets is the pick.
