Roddick, Isner set for all-American matchups Andy Roddick will go up against Michael Russell in the Atlanta quarterfinals on Friday. Another all-American clash is featuring John Isner and Jack Sock.

    (4) Andy Roddick vs. Michael Russell

Two veteran Americans will be squaring off for the third time in their careers when they clash in the BB&T Atlanta Open quarterfinals on Friday night. Roddick leads the head-to-head series 2-0 after winning their only hard-court encounter 6-2, 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 at last season's U.S. Open. It has already been a great week for Russell, who outlasted Alex Kuznetsov in a third-set tiebreaker then upset Kevin Anderson 6-7(5), 6-4, 6-4. The 34-year-old is a solid 9-7 at the ATP level this season and he finds himself back in the Top 100 at No. 96 in the world.

Roddick is also on top of his game in time for the U.S. Open Series and the Olympics. The 29-year-old turned his 2012 campaign around with a title in Eastbourne and a third-round appearance at Wimbledon. He kicked off his week in Atlanta by avenging a French Open loss with a 7-6(4), 6-3 victory over Nicolas Mahut. Look for Roddick to book a semifinal spot after two competitive sets.

    (1) John Isner vs. (WC) Jack Sock

Isner and Sock are meeting for the first time in their careers as they contest the nightcap on Friday. Sock has already doubled his previous career ATP win total with a strong showing in Atlanta. The 326th-ranked American took out Alex Bogomolov on Monday before defeating fellow wild card and doubles partner Steve Johnson in two tiebreakers on Thursday.

A two-time runner-up in Atlanta, Isner is a heavy title favorite after Mardy Fish's second-round retirement. Isner started slow in his opener, but he got past Ruben Bemelmans 4-6, 6-3, 6-4. The 11th-ranked American, once again coming off a title in Newport, is now 30-12 for his 2012 campaign. Isner in straight sets--with at least one tiebreaker--is the pick.
