  • Tipsarevic in action, Paire faces Brown

    7/11/12 6:31 AM | Ricky Dimon
Tipsarevic in action, Paire faces Brown Janko Tipsarevic will kick off his Stuttgart campaign on Wednesday against Steve Darcis. Benoit Paire and Dustin Brown are also in action.

    (1) Janko Tipsarevic vs. Steve Darcis

Tipsarevic will be back in action for the first time since Wimbledon when he takes the court against Darcis during second-round play at the Mercedes Cup on Wednesday. The Serb's fortnight at the All-England Club was halted by Mikhail Youzhny in the third round. Still, Tipsarevic is a solid 32-14 for the year and he registers at No. 8 in the world.

This is the top seed's second career encounter with Darcis but first at the ATP level. They battled three seasons ago at the Mons Challenger, where Tipsarevic rolled 6-4, 6-3. Darcis is a respectable 14-12 on the ATP Tour in 2012 after disposing of Albert Montanes 6-4, 6-2 in his opening match this week. The 75th-ranked Belgian won't go away quietly, but Tipsarevic in straight sets is the pick.

(WC) Dustin Brown vs. Benoit Paire

Brown and Paire will be facing each other for the first time at the ATP level on Wednesday in Stuttgart. They squared off at clay-court Futures event last year in Rome, where Brown prevailed 6-3, 4-6, 6-1. Paire, however, is surging into prominence in 2012. The 47th-ranked Frenchman has earned 19 of his 25 career ATP-level match wins this season and he cruised past Eduardo Schwank on Tuesday.

Paire is not likely to have an easy time of things in this one because Brown is also in fine form and he is playing in front of a hometown crowd. The big-serving German qualified for Wimbledon before losing to David Ferrer. On Monday he saved a match point down 4-5 in the third set before outlasting Nikolay Davydenko 9-7 in a third-set tiebreaker. Look for Paire to take out Brown after two entertaining sets.
