• Rosol back on the Wimbledon court to face Kohlschreiber

    6/29/12 11:16 PM | Ricky Dimon
Rosol back on the Wimbledon court to face Kohlschreiber Lukas Rosol, after stunning Rafael Nadal, will continue his surprising Wimbledon campaign against Philipp Kohlschreiber on Saturday. In-form competitors Brian Baker and Benoit Paire are also in action.

    (27) Philipp Kohlschreiber vs. Lukas Rosol

Rosol played the match of his life on Thursday, shocking Rafael Nadal 6-7(9), 6-4, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4 in an epic second-round Wimbledon performance. Although a win of that magnitude came completely out of nowhere, Rosol had already been enjoying the best season of his career. The 100th-ranked Czech owns 13 of his 20 ATP match victories this year, including a four-setter over Ivan Dodig in round one.

Two days later Rosol will be back in action for a first-ever meeting with Kohlschreiber. The 30th-ranked German has also done well to make it this far, having retired from an Eastbourne quarterfinal last week with a minor ankle scare. Kohlschreiber battled past countryman Tommy Haas in a five-set opener then ousted Malek Jaziri 6-1, 7-6(2), 6-1. The only question, of course, is how will Rosol follow up his amazing victory? Rarely do we see such a showing backed up, so Kohlschreiber in four sets is the pick.

    (Q) Brian Baker vs. Benoit Paire

At very different points in their respective careers, Baker and Paire are storming into prominence on the ATP Tour and surging up the rankings in 2012. Baker, a 27-year-old American, missed almost six full years due to injuries but he is finally healthy and recently made it to an ATP final (Nice) and won a match at the French Open. Paire owns 18 of his 23 career tour-level match wins this season, including three in a run to the 's-Hertogenbosch semifinals last week.

Baker had to qualify for the main draw last week, which he did without any trouble. The world No. 126 rolled over Rui Machado in the first round before dismantling Jarkko Nieminen 6-0, 6-2, 6-4 on Thursday. Paire beat Matthew Ebden in a four-set first-rounder then took out No. 22 seed Alexandr Dolgopolov 7-6(2), 6-4, 6-4. Expect a high-quality encounter and look for Baker to just pull it out after four entertaining sets.
