  • Djokovic takes on veteran Stepanek in Wimbledon third round

    6/29/12 4:39 AM | Cheryl Murray
Djokovic takes on veteran Stepanek in Wimbledon third round World No. 1 Novak Djokovic will take on the wily veteran Radek Stepanek as the Serb looks for a spot in the Wimbledon round of 16.

Defending Wimbledon champion Novak Djokovic continues his quest to repeat as titleholder against serve-and-volleyer Radek Stepanek as the third round gets under way on Friday.

Djokovic has been largely untested at the Championships so far. The Serb won both of his matches in straight sets, with a particularly impressive showing against American Ryan Harrison in the second round.

Stepanek, the No. 28 seed, has managed to get a win over Djokovic, but it was way back in 2006. Djokovic won their last 5 meetings.

Despite the fact that serve-and-volley tennis was traditional on grass courts, Djokovic will most likely over-power the finesse of the veteran.

Prediction – Djokovic in straight sets.

Stepanek once pushed Djokovic to 5 sets at us open but that was in 2007 Djokovic is a different player now. Djokovic in straight sets but not easy straight sets

1 set apiece. Stepanek's playing really well at the net.

But Novak is so much more than Radek. So, no surprises there. He next plays Viktor who outplayed Monaco in 3.
Great job my fellow citizens ;)

Djokovic looked scary good in last 3 sets its going to be hard to beat this djokovic over 5 sets

^^ I'll second that. Some of the instinctive plays he made were jaw dropping especially given the speed of the grass etc. He is going to be tough to beat, but I still would like to see a bit more consistency. Maybe I'm just demanding too much :P

he was very tense in the first set. as soon as he relaxed first class tennis followed.

^ Stepanek played fantastic tennis in the first set, deserved to win it. After that he started making a few more mistakes, and Nole woke up.
