• Raonic, Almagro and Monaco in round 2 action

    5/31/12 4:14 AM | Cheryl Murray
Raonic, Almagro and Monaco in round 2 action Milos Raonic, Juan Monaco and Nicolas Almagro will take to the court on Thursday as the bottom half wraps up the second round of the French Open.

Milos Raonic (19) vs. Jesse Levine

American Jesse Levine came all the way through qualifying to earn a spot in the main draw and then defeated Benjamin Becker in straight sets in the opening round. Life will get more difficult for Levine against Raonic, however. The Canadian is ranked just outside the top 20 (22nd) and his monster first serve means that he is a difficult opponent no matter the surface.

Prediction – Raonic for the win, but Levine could give him a test.

Juan Monaco (13) vs. Lukas Rosol

Argentina's Juan Monaco had an injury scare in Monte Carlo a few weeks ago, but appears to be fit again as he takes on second round opponent Lukas Rosol of the Czech Republic. The Argentine only got to the third round in Rome, but he gave Novak Djokovic a fight before going down in three sets.

Rosol is ranked 79th in the world and spends much of his time on the Challenger circuit, where he enjoys some success. He had a long four-set match in the first round against Carlos Berlocq.

Prediction – Monaco for the win in 4.

Nicolas Almagro (12) vs. Marcos Baghdatis

In one of the more intriguing matchups of the day, Spaniard Nicolas Almagro will take on Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis. Almagro would ordinarily come into this match as the overwhelming favorite, but he made a run to the title in Nice and just finished that tournament on Saturday. Fatigue could become a factor for him as the fortnight wears on.

Still, Baghdatis hasn't been fantastic on clay this year. He has one quarterfinal showing in Munich, but otherwise it has been first and second-round losses for the Cypriot.

Prediction – Almagro through in 4.
