  • Berdych battles Berlocq in crucial Dusseldorf match

    5/23/12 6:26 PM | Ricky Dimon
Berdych battles Berlocq in crucial Dusseldorf match The Red Group in Dusseldorf all comes down to the Czech Republic and Argentina. Tomas Berdych will kick off the proceedings against Carlos Berlocq on Thursday.

Tomas Berdych and Carlos Berlocq will be meeting for the second time in their careers when they clash on Thursday at the World Team Cup in Dusseldorf. Berdych won their only previous encounter 7-6(8), 7-5 last year on the hard courts of the Sony Ericsson Open.

This should be a high-quality affair with both players in fine form at the moment. Berdych is 30-8 for his 2012 campaign after defeating Go Soeda on Monday and Andy Roddick on Tuesday. The seventh-ranked Czech finished runner-up in Madrid earlier this month as he prepares for Roland Garros.

Berlocq is also 2-0 in singles this week (3-0 overall) following victories over Roddick on Sunday and Soeda on Wednesday. The 37th-ranked Argentine is 18-12 for the season.

Both the Czech Republic and Argentina are 2-0 in the Red Group heading into this round-robin showdown, so a spot in the championship all comes down to these two teams. Clay will give Berlocq a chance in this one, whereas Berdych would have no trouble at all on a faster surface. Look for Berdych to give the Czechs a 1-0 lead after two competitive sets.

why is he even playing here ?????????? I mean have a heart have some rest and practice before RG and wimbledon this guy has some potential to do serious damage and can even win a slam he played well in rome and faster babolat balls (if they use last year's) would give him serious advantage

^^^ Yeah. He definitely should have taken some rest. He's hampering his chances at RG.
