  • Roddick returns to action in Dusseldorf

    5/20/12 6:20 AM | Ricky Dimon
Roddick returns to action in Dusseldorf Andy Roddick has stayed away from clay this season, but he will take to the slow stuff on Sunday at the World Team Cup. Roddick may not receive a warm reception from solid clay-court player Carlos Berlocq.

Andy Roddick will be making his 2012 clay-court debut when he takes the court on Sunday at the World Team Cup in Dusseldorf. Roddick is part of an American squad that also includes Ryan Harrison and James Blake.

The 29-year-old American was plagued by injuries early this season and as a result he has a modest 7-6 record to show for his efforts. However, Roddick rebounded from his ankle issues at the Sony Ericsson Open and scored a huge upset of Roger Federer in the third round.

Team USA is opening its title bid against Argentina, which won the cup in 2010. Roddick has the tough task of going up against an in-form Carlos Berlocq, who is a stellar 16-12 for his 2012 campaign. Berlocq, a five-time quarterfinalist this year (including a final in Vina del Mar) is coming off a second-round Rome loss to Federer.

Roddick will have to serve extremely well to have any chance, because he is rusty and will get thoroughly outclassed from the back of the court by Berlocq. Count on the Argentine getting the job done in straight sets.

came from a long hiatus and won 4 games against the legend that is Carlos Berlocq Lol at least he should have made it a competitive match he is on the brink of retirement if he plays like that

expected one

Roddick would lose to Berlocq something like 5 and 6 on clay when 100 percent, so 2 and 2 is not surprising after such a long layoff
