• Harrison gets another shot at Stakhovsky

Harrison gets another shot at Stakhovsky The first full day of main-draw action in Madrid will feature a second career meeting between Ryan Harrison and Sergiy Stakhovsky. Their only previous matchup went the distance to a fifth-set tiebeaker at the U.S. Open.

Ryan Harrison and Sergiy Stakhovsky will be going head-to-head for the second time in their careers when they clash in round one of the Mutua Madrid Open on Monday afternoon. Stakhovsky won their first encounter 6-3, 5-7, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6(6) at the 2010 U.S. Open, saving three match points from 6-3 down in the final-set tiebreaker.

Almost two full seasons later, Harrison is a much different player at 20 years old. The American, who will spend his 20th birthday with Stakhovsky on the other side of the net, has registered as high as 58th in the world and he currently surfaces at No. 61. Harrison owns 12 of his 31 career ATP match wins in 2012, but he is coming off a first-round Belgrade loss to Joao Souza.

Stakhovsky is struggling this season with an 8-11 record. The 82nd-ranked Ukrainian has advanced one round in each of his two previous clay-court events, a stretch that includes losses to Andy Murray in Barcelona and to Feliciano Lopez in Munich.

Stakhovsky's experience was the clear difference in their last match, but the advantage won't be as extreme this time around. Based on a slight edge in current form, Harrison in three sets is the pick.
