Haas, Kohlschreiber eye all-German Munich final Germans Tommy Haas and Philipp Kohlschreiber will be in semifinal action on Saturday in Munich. They are set for respective meetings with Marin Cilic and Feliciano Lopez.

(WC) Tommy Haas vs. (3) Marin Cilic

Haas has already enjoyed an outstanding run at the BMW Open, advancing all the way to the semifinals as a wild-card entry. The 34-year-old German destroyed countryman Michael Berrer, rolled over top-seeded Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, then ousted Marcos Baghdatis in straight sets on Friday. Haas is 7-4 at the ATP level this season and on the verge of surging back into the Top 100.

Saturday's first semifinal is the second career meeting between Haas and Cilic, the first since an epic 2009 Wimbledon third-round encounter that saw Haas prevail 7-5, 7-5, 1-6, 6-7(3), 10-8. Cilic, who has also been dealing with physical problems this year, is an even 5-5 for his 2012 campaign following wins this week over Matthias Bachinger and Mikhail Youzhny. The 6'6'' Croat is favored on paper, but look for Haas to treat the crowd to another big victory.

    (4) Philipp Kohlschreiber vs. (2) Feliciano Lopez

Kohlschreiber and Lopez will be going head-to-head for the fifth time in their careers on Saturday afternoon in Munich. Lopez leads the head-to-head series 3-1, including 1-0 on clay (6-4, 3-6, 6-3 at the 2011 Rome Masters). Kohlschreiber won their most recent meeting 6-1, 6-4 last summer in Cincinnati.

Lopez earned a spot in this semifinal with straight-set victories over Sergiy Stakhovsky and Bernard Tomic. Kohlschreiber also has not yet dropped a set in wins at the expense of Ernests Gulbis and Marinko Matosevic. While Lopez has an edge on serve, Kohlschreiber should be able to play his way into baseline rallies on this surface and he has home-court advantage. The German in three sets is the pick.

Haas is back...somehow! I saw him several years ago in Cinncinati and I thought it was his career ending final "tour" on the ATP circuit...that was 4 years ago...glad that he's still playing great tennis!
