• Nalbandian, Seppi on court in Belgrade for the quarters

    5/4/12 4:07 AM | Cheryl Murray
Nalbandian, Seppi on court in Belgrade for the quarters No. 4 seed David Nalbandian will be in action at the Serbia Open as the field fights for spots in Saturday’s semifinals.

David Nalbandian (4) vs. Joao Souza

Argentine David Nalbandian will take on Brazil’s Joao Souza on quarterfinal day in Belgrade. The Argentine hadn’t been on European clay before this week; his match against Souza will be just his second match of the pre-Roland Garros season.

Souza is ranked 116 in the world. He had good wins in the first two rounds over Ryan Harrison and Dusan Lajovic, but Nalbandian is an experienced clay-courter and should come into the match reasonably well-rested.

    Prediction- Nalbandian in 3.

Andreas Seppi (2) vs. Gilles Muller (8)

Italy’s Andreas Seppi comes into this quarterfinal match with an encouraging record over opponent Gilles Muller of Luxembourg. The two men have met twice on the ATP tour; Seppi won both of those encounters.

Both of the wins came on hard courts, which is not good news for Muller. Seppi prefers to play on clay, while Muller relies on his big serve and is at his best on faster courts.

Seppi defeated Ivan Dodig to get to the quarters, while Muller upended Lukas Lacko and Eduardo Schwank. The Italian for the win in straight sets.
