Nadal takes on fellow Spaniard Granollers An all-Spanish showdown is next on the schedule for Rafael Nadal in Indian Wells. Nadal will go up against Marcel Granollers during third-round action on Tuesday.

Rafael Nadal and Marcel Granollers will be squaring off for the very first time in their careers when they do battle in the third round of the BNP Paribas Open on Tuesday.

Granollers is up to No. 26 in the world, mainly thanks to a 500-point title last fall in Valencia. That ultimately earned the Spaniard a seed in Indian Wells and led to an opening-round bye. Granollers kicked off his tournament on Sunday with a 6-3, 2-6, 6-3 victory over Tommy Haas.

Nadal had not played since losing an epic Australian Open final to Novak Djokovic. The second-ranked Spaniard, however, showed no signs of rust in cruising past Leonardo Mayer 6-1, 6-3 in his opener.

Overall, Nadal is 10-2 for his 2012 campaign. Granollers, still searching for his Valencia form, is an even 4-4 for the season and has not yet won back-to-back matches.

It will in all likelihood be one win and then done yet again for Granollers. This not a bad surface for the underdog, who generally does his best work on clay and slow hard courts. But it also suits Nadal, who is 31-5 lifetime in Indian Wells and a two-time champion. Nadal in straight sets is the obvious pick.

After the doubles match, a Rafan fell over the billboard and Rafa went up to him and gave him a hug. See video: ht.html

RickyDimon , 3/14/12 1:49 AM

I meant to say hoardings around the court. Billboards are called hoardings in the UK.
